Some Ideas for the site.
I wanted to make these groups on the forum so that we could bounce ideas off of each other since sooo much of this project is going to have to be done outside of the class I wanted to make it easy for everyone to come to this site and know exactly what was going on.
I also wanted to give you a link to a page that I made on the wiki that showed some of the ideas that I had about color schemes/logo/whatever else. I actually didnt have anything in mind for what they would be used for, I just started designing something that I thought would be cool. I dont know if I am even on the elm city side, but I just felt like making some stuff...soooooooo...without further ado, if you click HERE you will be able to see some stuff that I've started. Thankssssss!

Hey Danielle, nice job on the work already and i really like some of stuff. I have talked to the project manager on the elm city side and showed him your work and he agreed on one or two of the ideas. I will let you know on wednesday which ones. Also, I liked your stuff alot and was wondering if you would be able to talk me through some of the things you did. please let me know.

Yeah definitelyyyy...I am not really good at explaining things, but I can absolutely show you how I did everything, which was all really simple, so you will definitely be able to do it too. On another note, We don't even necessarily have to use those specific ones, we can take some elements from one and other elements from another one, change everything around, mix things up, ya know? I just left class feeling inspired and needed to do something haha. Anyways. Im excited about this project, it should end up being a lot of fun and I think we will all have something great to show for it in the end.

great work danielle
Danielle, these logos are great, my favorite is the one on the bottom. I think that it combines alot of the visuals that we will be looking for, All of them could work. Once we meet as a group formally we can decide where we want to go with them and present them to United Manufacturing. Also when you are showing joel how u did that stuff i would love to be there so i can learn how you did some of those things. thanks and ill talk to you soon.

elm city logo
I'm not on this team, but I was looking over the logos. I think the last one has alot of potential. I think the first few are interesting, but don't fit the audience. The furniture line is for young professionals, so I think the first few logos don't reflect that demographic. However, the last one could work, I think it's a creative spin on class and what United Manufacturing, which is what the Elm City line is all about.

Whewww!
I am extremely excited about working with this team. There is a good variety of creative individuals and I am anxious to see our result.
As far as the logos Danielle has been so kind to design, already, I think they are great. They contain a lot of differant elements and color schemes. When it comes to choosing a favorite, I really think the last one on the page is highly effective. It seems to capture all the visual and color elements. I find that the ankh used for an "i" in the word, "city" shows great symbolization of life, in this case it would be more like, lifestyle. Of course it can always be tweaked to fit everyone's opinion, but as for what you have done, I think you did a great job.
Danielle,
I have a bizzillion questions about how you created such font designs and graphics. I also noticed in an earlier post you stated how you were bad with explaining things but you are happily willing to demonstrate, so can you be my teacher... please?
Team,
Also, I am confused as to whether Elm City is selling their furniture to the public or if it's the internal manufacturer. However, I thought the United Manufacturer website is the internal seller, and Elm City is the site for the public consumers. Sorry, I can be clueless sometimes.
Well, I guess that is all for now. See you all tomorrow!
Ciao!

Re: Some Ideas for the site.
Hey I'm a tad bit on the late side but I love this team already. I think we're off to a great start by looking at the competition seeing that we have to get an understanding of our competition and we do not know much of anything about furniture keep it real. Clearly something such as Ikea or some of the other websites listed would be phenomenal to do but we're off to an amazing start. I love the logos which Danielle designed and for the most part, I think that they are geared towards our audience of "the urban" scene. I must agree with pretty much all of you who said the last one feeds to our target audience the most at this point with the colors and the shapes. My second choice would be the third one in black, white and red. My only concern is if we would be able to use these as logos for letters, memo's or any important documents or would we have to minimize it just a little for those instances? As many others, I would love to know what you did to get these logos they look great, thanks Danielle!

Just another Website This one is displaying office furniture but I still feel that it is very urban and geared towards the younger generation.

COMPETITION!
I was wondering when did this ever become a battle between the groups? Is this going to be the way it is? Who is going to create a better website?

Re: Some Ideas for the site.
Who said anything about competition? Danita was referring to our furniture companies (including united manufacturing) competition, like Ikea, or Raymore and Flannagan. OTHER furniture companies. NOT YOU GUYS. Remember that we are a product based off of United Manufacturing, we work together, but separately. I am pretty sure that everyone in this class will help each other out no matter what, and if you guys have something cool I expect you to to show us and help our site better, as well as we are going to do that if you are interested in something we do.
so bill. i think you're confused. its a group effort and we have to keep in mind our final goal which is to make an effective and attractive site for United Manufactruing's business.

Re: Some Ideas for the site.
Wow Bill you really ought to calm down and read all of the information before you freak out and comment in such a manner. Why would we compete with the other half of the class when we're all apart of the same company? Think about it. It wasn't even to that, you definitely OD'd with the quotes too. Thank you Danielle for clarifying for me because that is not what I meant at all. Our group has already started looking at the competition (ie: IKEA as we listed), which wouldn't be the other group seeing that we're all apart of United Manufacturing. There are no enemies here. GUYS!
Guys, It was very late last night and dreamweaver fustrated me badly! Please dont take this as an attack on Elm City group! Again, please dont think I was trying to do that! As for the quotes they are just quotes, I was not calling anyone an ENEMY! I think everyone so far has been doing an EXCELLANT JOB! The ball is rolling and lets continue!

Re: Some Ideas for the site.
Okay team, so apparently the colors have already been selected for us. Shayna and the group decided they wanted red, black, and white as the colors for those who did not read what Dr. Petroski posted last week. This instantly made me think of the street/urban design Danielle came up with which had those colors and was my second favorite. But that is one less thing we have to worry about it colors because they have already been selected for us. I feel like those are the colors used most often with urban furniture websites but it's what the client wants so it's what the client gets. It also doesn't mean that ours can't be better or stand out more than the others. We have a great team and we can make it work. With everyone recovering from Spring Break, everyone is in a lazy mood but we definitely have to put a pep in our step and take this a heck of a lot more seriously.

Just in case you guys didn't catch this
Dr. Petroski,
Here is an email i recieved from John (my executive VP)
I am open to your classes revisions of the logos as there were some
logos that we liked but none that we thought were ready to use.
In reference to what John said in the email about the direction of the
website this is refering to the fact that we want the main focus of the
website to be sales. It needs to be very user friendly for furniture
stores to be able to place an order. It also should be easy for an
individual to contact a furniture store with a particular piece of
furniture they would like to purchase.
Please let me know if the April 10th due date is ok for drafts of the
website.
Thanks,
Shayna Pattison

My fave inspiration!
Okay...so this website I found...I think is a perfect example.
Out of all that we have been introduced to, I find this one to be the best! (In my opinion @ least)
It is simple and elegant yet it is a site for urban style furniture at affordable prices(I think) but nevermind that, here is the link:
Bo Concept Urban Design Furniture
Thanks.
